Secondary Operations
To further enhance our manufacturing solutions, MedFab offers a selection of specialized finishing processes through our trusted partners. These operations ensure durability, functionality, and aesthetic excellence for your components:
- Aluminum Anodizing – Type II Type 2 aluminum anodizing forms a durable, corrosion-resistant oxide layer on aluminum surfaces. This process is available in clear or colored finishes, enhancing both aesthetic appeal and surface durability, making it ideal for various applications, including architectural, automotive, and consumer products.
- Hardcoat Aluminum Anodizing – Type III Type 3 hardcoat aluminum anodizing creates a thick, durable ,protective oxide layer through an electrochemical process. This treatment significantly enhances wear resistance, hardness, and corrosion protection. Ideal for demanding applications.
- Electropolishing – An electrochemical process that smooths and polishes metal surfaces, enhancing their appearance and corrosion resistance.
- Electroless Nickel Plating – Electroless nickel plating is an auto-catalytic reaction that deposits an even layer of phosphorus nickel alloy on the surface of a solid material, like metal or plastic. Electroless plating differs from electroplating in that it does not require passing an electric current through the plating solution to create a coating on the substrate. The electroless nickel plating process deposits a reliable, repeatable nickel coating of uniform thickness. This process eliminates the uneven buildup typical of other electroplating processes that can compromise threads and part tolerances, leading to post-plate grinding.
- Passivation – Passivation is a chemical treatment process that removes free iron from stainless steel surfaces, enhancing corrosion resistance by forming a thin, protective oxide layer.
- Trivalent Chromate Conversion Coating – Non-Hex conversion coating that enhances corrosion resistance using less toxic trivalent chromium compounds.
- Ultrasonic & Aqueous Cleaning – Ultrasonic cleaning uses high-frequency sound waves to create bubbles that implode, removing contaminants without damaging delicate parts. Aqueous cleaning utilizes water-based solutions with detergents for effective, eco-friendly removal of dirt and grease from various materials, including metals and plastics.
- Plastic Annealing –Plastic Annealing is a heat treatment process where plastic materials are heated to a specific temperature, held there, and then cooled slowly to relieve internal stresses. This process is essential for improving the stability and mechanical properties of plastics that may have developed stresses during manufacturing processes like injection molding or machining. Without annealing, these stresses could lead to warping, cracking, crazing, or other deformities over time, impacting the reliability and longevity of the plastic components..
- Powder Coating – Powder coating is a dry finish that creates a thick dry powder coating cured using heat. The result is a high-quality coating with a variety of colors and surface finishes. Powder coating is formulated to endure the severities of chemicals, abrasion, chipping, or ultraviolet radiation from sunlight.
- Grit & Glass Bead Blast Finishing – Grit and bead blasting are surface preparation techniques that utilize abrasive materials to clean and enhance surfaces. Grit blasting uses angular abrasives for aggressive cleaning and surface profiling, while bead blasting employs spherical beads for a smoother finish, ensuring optimal surface preparation for coatings and treatments.
- Grinding – Fine-tuned finishes and precise dimensional control. Grinding uses an abrasive grinding wheel to remove unwanted material to create very fine finishes and exact measurements for tight tolerances. The result is fine-tuned finishes and precise dimensional control.
- Laser Welding –Microscopic laser welding uses a concentrated heat source, allowing for precise, controlled weld placement. It is available with both manual and CNC programmable lasers.
- Laser Marking & Engraving – Laser marking and engraving is a precise technique that alters surfaces through focused laser energy. It enables processes such as annealing for color changes, deep engraving for durable markings, and material removal for clean designs. Key applications include masking anodized aluminum for grounding and foaming for raised markings, offering versatility for various materials, including metals and plastics.
- Cryogenic Deburring + Deflashing – Cryogenic deflashing/deburring uses extreme cold to make excess material brittle, which is then removed with media blasting. It’s used for precision cleaning without damaging delicate parts or fine details.
